Virgin Hotels will open and operate a new hotel in Palm Springs, California, the hospitality group announced Tuesday. The property is expected to open at the corner of the new Main Street and South Palm Canyon Drive. The new build property is currently expected to open by late 2018.

Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal commented, “Opening a property in California has been on our wish-list since day one, and as Palm Springs has grown beyond its reputation of a retreat for Californians, we knew it was the perfect location for a Virgin Hotel.”

The hotel will feature 150 rooms (Virgin Hotels calls them Chambers and Grand Chamber Suites) as well as multiple drinking and dining outlets, including The Commons Club, which was introduced at the brand’s first opening in Chicago in 2015, as well as a rooftop terrace and pool overlooking Mt. San Jacinto, the Indian Canyons, and the Coachella Valley.

The hotel development in the space is one of two properties currently being planned by Wessman Development. The space, which is adjacent to the Palm Springs Art Museum, was originally planned to contain an AC by Marriott new build property.

“Virgin is not just a hotel, but a new and completely different experience—one that can be enjoyed not only by our visitors, but by everyone in the community, added Michael Braun of Wessman Development. “The addition of the Virgin Hotels Palm Springs will positively impact downtown revitalization and will benefit all of Palm Springs’ existing restaurants, hotels and shops for the next twenty years and beyond.”

Virgin Hotels Chicago is the only location currently open for business. Virgin Hotels Palm Springs is the fifth property in the groups development pipeline, joining other properties planned for Nashville, Dallas, and New York City.

There has been plenty of change in the Palm Springs lodging landscape as of late. Kimpton is developing a new hotel, slated to open in 2017, Triada Palm Springs recently completed a renovation, and The Riviera Palm Springs underwent a refresh and joined Starwood’s Tribute Portfolio.
