Guests onboard select upcoming Celebrity Cruises sailings will enjoy white truffles on board select November and December sailings, the cruise line announced Wednesday in a press release. The white truffles will be featured in new truffle-inspired menus onboard upcoming Celebrity sailings in the Caribbean.

White truffles, known as the “diamond of the kitchen” to foodies and “tuber magnatum pico” to botanists, are highly prized throughout the culinary sphere. Celebrity Cruises purchased two of the rare mushrooms at the World White Truffle Charity Auction in Grinzane Cavour, Italy. White truffles are found only in Northern Italy’s Piedmont region, and only in October and December of each year, making truffle season a highly anticipated time period for gastronomes around the world. The two white truffles won by Celebrity at the auction weigh a total of 700 grams. White truffles auctioned at the World White Truffle Charity Auction often sell for up to 100,000 Euro, with proceeds benefiting Italy’s Institute for Cancer Research.

Celebrity was represented at the invitation-only auction by Executive Chef John Suley. “White truffles are the ultimate luxury, and Celebrity now has two of the rarest in the world,” said Chef Suley. “Sought after by Michelin-starred restaurants and connoisseurs, truffles generate excitement among all foodies – their flavor, aroma, and rarity are so distinct – and they’re only available during a small window each year. They are a natural product of nature, and not even technology can replicate them.”

The truffles will premiere at sea during a 10 Night Caribbean itinerary onboard Celebrity Equinox, departing November 21 from Ft. Lauderdale. Ports of call will include St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Maarten; there are cabins available on that sailing. Guests on board will enjoy a preview of Celebrity’s new truffle menu. Sample dishes include a wild mushroom risotto with thin slices of white truffle to desserts topped with white truffle Chantilly cream.

Celebrity will host other truffle-themed dinners onboard other Caribbean sailings in late November and early December. The winning truffles will also be featured at a special truffle-and-wine pairing event at James Beard House in New York City on Monday, November 24. Celebrity has been hosting events at James Beard house since 2012.
