I’m Scott Laird, and I grew up splitting time between two of the best and most beautiful places on earth: Anchorage, Alaska and the Garden Isle of Kaua’i. I’ve always been passionate about all things related to travel, particularly in the hospitality sphere. I learned from some of the best in the Hospitality business during my time at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where I learned how to keep bell staff from soliciting tips, write a purchasing manual, the finer points of running a kitchen and dining room, and the most humane way to dispatch a lobster for bisque.
I ultimately finished my collegiate career with a B.S. and M.S. in Management Science from Alaska Pacific University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and I’m currently employed by a major airline, but you won’t find me writing about airlines here. In an effort to keep profession and personal passion separate, you’ll find my writing here planted fully on terra firma.
A lot of my work was previously published on examiner.com, where I contributed from 2009 until 2016, and it’s now available here. You’ll also find a great deal of my travel writing at TravelPulse, where I specialize in Hospitality coverage.
How’d I miss this? Love it!!!

Hi Scott. I’m interested in going to Bora Bora. I read your recent article and wanted to inquire about the Covid test you need to get before you go. You mentioned the airline gave you a list of companies that would get the test back in 3 days. Could you provide that list and how much the test cost you? Thanks for any insight you can give a fellow traveler

Hi Maureen: the Tahiti Tourisme website has some more information on testing locations in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I don’t live in either city but I went to LA for the test three days prior to departure. Here’s a link to Tahiti Tourisme’s info: https://tahititourisme.com/en-us/covid-19/

Oh, and I paid about $225 for the test.

Thanks Scott. I looked at the list and it doesn’t really give a location. Do you remember what the name of the location was where you were tested in LA? I appreciate your help.

I went to Goodlife Medical in West Hollywood. It’s a drive thru in the parking lot of a nightclub, but it works!
